What were they thinking?

If the bloodthirsty terrorists responsible for the massacre of hundreds of Russian schoolchildren thought they were helping advance their cause, they were sadly mistaken.

Russians are infuriated, and President Vladimir Putin has taken the gloves off. Worse yet, by deliberately targeting children they made it impossible for their apologists in the EU and the US to cover for them. After all, killing thousands of office workers in New York is one thing, but killing children, why that's beyond the pale.

The Russian government is not going to be as concerned about due process and the civil rights of the Chechen people as the Great Satan would be. No, I predict that Russia is about to "go Soviet" on their sorry asses, and it's not going to be pretty.

The Chechens shouldn't expect any sympathy from me.

The Chechens weren't "thinking" per se, they were more dreaming of visions of islamic grandeur with 72 virgins, etc, etc, etc. They did this more to impress the rest of the islamic world and to strike fear in the hearts of the Russians. Unfortunately, Russia still has too much of the old-style Soviet disregard for human life, and now that they decided to "pull the tigers tail", they are going to have to deal with the tiger's teeth. In the same way that the attacks by Al-Qaeda brought about the fall of Saddam Hussein, one group of terrorists will bring about the complete trashing of Chechnya.

This is good for Bush in a way. People that argue that it's our fault that the islamic terrorists are attacking us have to change their way of thinking. If they happened to kill some soldiers, etc., the arguement was that they were defending their country. But now, by killing children, they have shown themselves to be exactly what Bush has always said they are, cold-blooded killers who only want our collective deaths in the name of Allah. For Kerry to say that he will do something against them only when the UN says so or after they kill you shows just how much out of touch with reality he really is. This will come back to bite him in the debates.

I was kind of worried about the debates, but now with this stuff going on, I can see that Kerry needs to be more worried than Bush. Senator Flippus Floppus will learn to regret his contradictory statements in the press. Just like Ronald Reagan's "There you go again." everytime that idiot Carter opened his mouth, Bush will have some type of zinger that will come back to bite Kerry in the butt.
