John Kerry's Opinion on the Military

By now, we have all heard about John "War Hero" Kerry's remarks on the military and education. My only reponse is that I'm not surprised. We all deep, down inside know that John Kerry despised the military in the way that only an east-coast liberal can, so why be surprised. Eventually, in the heat of campaigning, just like the fecal material floating to the top of the cesspool, his true self would come out and we would all be treated to what just transpired. In true Democratic fashion, he later tried to "clarify" his remarks and of course, he cited his military record from Vietnam as if that gave him a pass for his 30+ years of stabbing the military in the back. Once a despiser of the military, always a despiser of the military.

But, then again, this could be just another evil Karl Rove, mind-control plot to force John Kerry to insult the military and take the focus off the administration and Iraq and put it on the Democrats and their opinions of military service. At least, that's what the Defeato-crats will say when they loose the election because of these remarks. All the Democrats where hoping for a big present in November, but it looks like they will be taking home a lump of coal.

Captain Holly's Election Predictions

My life is finally slowing down to the point where I can blog again, and of course my priority is the upcoming elections. So here's my take on what will happen November 7th.

First off, I don't really believe the Media reports of imminent Democrat victory. I heard those same reports back in 2004 and 2002, and they were waaay off. Indeed, it would appear that many pollsters either made the same assumptions when analyzing their data or purposely modified their results to create a new reality. It was very satisfying when they obviously got it wrong.

Having said that, it doesn't mean I believe the Republicans are in a good position. I can sympathize with alienated conservatives; many Republicans in the House are bumbling, feckless, or corrupt (Hastert, Foley, Ney, Cunningham) while many in the Senate are ambitious, preening narcissists (McCain, Graham, Warner, Hagel). Had they stuck to their principles instead of acting like Democrats, they'd be winning in a cakewalk.

But I simply cannot understand the logic that says conservatives should stay home this fall and let the Democrats win in order to "teach the Republicans a lesson". That's roughly akin to me allowing my two year-old daughter to get hit by a car in order to "teach her a lesson" about playing in the street: she'll get the message alright, but at an unacceptable cost.

Nevertheless, such thinking seems to be quite popular among conservatives, so I'll prepare my response now for cutting and pasting later. In about six months, when Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid announce sweeping new gun control legislation, or massive tax increases, or impeachment proceedings against President Bush and the "stay at home" conservatives inevitably start howling, I'll simply say: STOP WHINING. This is what YOU wanted. YOU helped make this bed; NOW SLEEP IN IT.

Actually, I don't believe it will come to that. The Republicans will keep control of both Houses of Congress, but just barely. I predict they will lose 7-10 seats in the House, 3-4 in the Senate. And hopefully, the Republican leadership will take notice of their close call and change their ways. But it would be far more effective to remove bad Republicans in the primaries, instead of replacing them with Democrats.

UPDATE: Even though he's not really a conservative, add Mr. Quick to the list of those who seem to believe that a Nancy Pelosi-led House would be more amenable to reducing spending or more effective at fighting the War on Terror. It will be interesting to see what he will be saying next June.

"Right-Wing Hack" Instapundit seems to be keeping a clear head about things. St. Andrew the Only True Conservative proves once again (as if we needed any further proof) that to him it's all about Teh Gays.

I voted and you should too!

Since I'm usually out of the country during election time, I vote as an absentee voter. This year, we have a total of seven different parties (Repulican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitution, Green, Desert Green and a party which as a happy face as their logo, the Personal Choice party) fielding candidates in the state of Utah. This year, after looking at the assorted clowns and bozos that the different political parties had put on the ballot, I voted a straight Republican ticket.

Some may say that I am narrow-minded or just some conservative robot under the evil spell of Karl Rove (oops, I forgot to throw "Bush Lied, People Died" in there somewhere), but in the long run, the only party that will make America better and not tear it down IS the Republican party. The Democrats have shown themselves to be completely inept when it comes to national security and the economy, so why bother to vote for them? Everyone else are just spouting Democratic talking points (Bush-Lied-People-Died, US out of Iraq, military bad/terrorists good, raise taxes because big oil and rich people bad, homosexual marriage good/religion bad, environmentalists heros/big oil bad, etc., etc., etc), so the logical choice if Republican.

In short, I would counsel any of the myriads of reader of The Warren to do as I have and vote Republican since everyone who has a pulse knows that a vote for the Democrats is a vote for terrorists and higher taxes, no matter what the MSM/Bill Klinton/Nancy Pelosi/Howard Dean/etc., etc., etc. would have you believe.

Oh, I almost forgot.

Harry Reid "dirty"? Say it isn't so!

As pointed out in this post from the Captain's Quarters, Senate Minority Leader, "Dirty Harry" Reid has a "culture of corruption" problem himself. I don't know whether to be shocked or just mildly interested since I knew the other shoe would drop after the Abramoff scandal.

I posted in December last year my thoughts on Brother Reid. To say that I feel that he is an embarrassment to the LDS Church is charitable. This new scandal coupled with his ties to Abramoff would be enough to unseat him from the Senate if he was a Republican, BUT, since he is a Democrat, there will be no 24/7 MSM coverage about this (unless of course, he sent salacious IM traffic to congressional pages) and it will be quickly swept under the rug and convienently forgotten.

And now back to something more important....

Getting away from petty issues like North Korean nukes and Rep. Mark Foley's page problem, the US national rugby team, the Eagles, qualified for the Rugby World Cup next year in France by beating Uruguay in their home-away series. The Eagles will play in Pool A which includes two former champions, England (RWC 2003) and South Africa (RWC 1995), Samoa and other team to be determined from the winner of Tonga vs. the second place team from Asia (Japan, South Korea or Hong Kong).

The Eagles first game will be against England on September 8th in Lens, France, followed by a games on September 12th in Montpellier against the winner of Tonga/Asia 2, on September 26th against Samoa in St. Etienne and finally on September 30th against South Africa back in Montpellier. If I'm a really good boy, maybe I'll be able to pick up the US game against Samoa or the winner of Tonga/Asia 2. That would really rock!
